Incorporating electronic resources links in Moodle
Most licensing agreements with library database providers permit linking to full-text articles and e-books from your course page on Moodle.
What is a persistent URL or a DOI?
To be effective the link must be a persistent URL or a DOI.
- Persistent URLs (also called stable URLs, permalinks, persistent links, or durable links) are Internet addresses that remain constant. Because our subscription databases are accessible on and off campus, links that use persistent URLs enable access while protecting copyrighted articles.
- DOI stands for Digital Object Identifier. A DOI is a unique persistent identifier for a published digital object, such as an article or a study. A DOI also links to an article or study. Here is an example of a citation for a study with a DOI: Saegert, S. (2008). Poverty and psychology: From global perspective to local practice. Global Public Health, 3(1), 109-111. doi:10.1080/17441690701664046
How to add UOB Proxy prefix?
- For a full-text link to work from off-campus locations, the UOB University proxy server address MUST be prefixed to the persistent URL or DOI. Our proxy server address is: http://ezsecureaccess.balamand.edu.lb/login?url=
- In many of our databases each persistent URL already includes the proxy prefix. If it doesn't the prefix can easily be added. You simply paste the proxy server address to the beginning of the persistent URL or DOI. For example, the link you should insert in your syllabus or Moodle course page is:
http://ezsecureaccess.balamand.edu.lb/login?url=https://doi.org/10.1080/17441690701664046
